Baby isn't a leopard, Baby is a jaguar. You know the famous "leopard" in "Bringing Up Baby", the most famous leopard in movies, he is a jaguar. Katherine Hepburn's brother gets him in South America, and leopards are from Africa. Plus Baby's spots are the dot in a circle spots of a jaguar, not a leopard spots and his size is more in keeping with a jaguar than a leopard. I have seen the movie umpteen times and I just noticed that Baby has to be a jaguar.

What does this have to do with the lady's short program at Four Continents? Well I was watching the movie on the first leg of the plane trip home and I just noticed for the first time that Baby must be a jaguar and I thought the world should know.

Kristine Lee - Hong Kong
Music is Tango de los Exilados - She did a triple sal/double toe combo, but stepped out of the sal. She landed a double out of steps and a single axel. She had a big smile on her face and was very cute.
Yea-Ji Shin - Korea
Music is Ritual Fire Dance - She has beautiful spin positions. She has willowy arms and holds them very gracefully, she moves like a ballerina. Fell on a triple jump, landed a triple salchow. She did a layback into a Biellman spin, with lovely positions and a true stretched Bielman. Very extended spirals, gorgeous positions and a dramatic, expressive footwork sequence. Her score was a new personal best.
Ami Parekh - India
Music is a medley of Bollywood music. - She landed a ripple jump, but did three turns out. Singled, and double footed the axel. She has a really beautiful layback spin that she had to turn into a Bielman because of COP. (Oh how I long for the days when we could just enjoy a layback.) She has good speed in her footwork sequence that includes a cool leap. She fell out of a triple sal. She held her Bielman spiral very long.
Na-Young Kim - Korea
Music is Romeo & Juliet - I think the movie version- Very pretty opening spiral sequence. She landed a triple and a triple lutz/double toe and a double axel. She did a split jump in her circular footwork sequence. New Personal Best
Anastasia Gimazetdinova - Uzbekistan
Music is From a Distance - She first caught my eye in practice, zooming around the rink like a speed skater. She is fast and powerful with very soft knees; when her jumps work they are great. She landed a double axel. She did a triple lutz/double toe but put her hand down and did turns after the lutz. She landed a triple out of steps. She has a fast camel spin with a nice line. Her spiral sequence was fast and her outside edge spiral was very deep. She ended with a Bielman spin.
Phoebe Di Tommaso - Australia
Her music is Chicago - Opened with a layback/Bielman spin. She fell on a triple jump landed a double lutz/double toe and a double axel. She did a one footed flying sit spin. New Personal Best.
Michelle Cantu - Mexico
Music is Duke Ellington's Satin Doll - She has nice expression. She landed a triple loop, popped a salchow and then did a toe jump. She did a nice interpretation of the music. Fell on a double axel. Pretty layback into a catchfoot into a Bielman. She also did catchfoot turns in her serpentine step sequence.
Jocelyn Ho - Chinese Taipei
She stepped out of a triple salchow. She did difficult steps into a triple jump. She held her spirals well and landed a double axel.
Cynthia Phaneuf - Canada
She looks like she has grown a few inches since last season. Music is You Are So Beautiful - She had great flow coming out of her double axel, held he edge very nicely. She singled the lutz and stepped out of the triple out of steps. Intricate straighline footwork sequence.
Stephanie Gardner - Brazil
By the way now that South American's are competing don't they have to change the name of this competition to the Five Continents. Or better yet come up with a good name - Skated to Girl From Ipanema - She did a single sal/single loop combo and a double out of steps and I don't have any notes about her axel. She had a big grin on her face the whole time and just seemed happy to be here.

(Not to pick on any one skater, cause a lot them were doing it, but enough with skating to the cheesiest of pop songs!!! This has to be stopped before someone skates to Having My Baby or Feelings)

Ana Cecilia Cantu - Mexico
Music is Get Ready For This - Landed a triple/double combo and a triple out of steps. She had nice height in her flying sit spin. She stepped out of her double axel. She has lots of personality. She did a sit spin with her leg extended that looked almost like the Danielle Shepard spin. New Personal Best.
Abigail Pietersen - Republic of South Africa
Music is Tango de los Exilados, which I think is the third time I heard this music used at this event. - She fell on a double axel, landed a double lutz/double toe and d double out of steps. She also smiled a lot and was clearly just enjoying being here and skating for us.
Emily Napthal - Mexico
Music from The Matrix - Fell on a double axel and fell on a lutz. She has nice positions in her combo spin. She landed a triple sal. She did a nice catchfoot layback into the ubiquitous Bielman (yes I know I sound like Dick Button.). New personal best.
Lesley Hawker - Canada
Music is Les Miz - She did a lovely layback spin which she let us enjoy without turning into a Bielman. She held onto a triple lutz and landed a double axel. But popped another jump. She did a long held spiral right on the music's crescendo.
Joanne Carter - Australia
Russian Gypsy Fire - popped the lutz. Fell on something. She did a doughnut camel spin (I have been on an airplane all day and I would kill for a jelly doughnut.) She is very fast, amazing ice coverage on this girl. She did a catch spiral into a double axel.
Dan Fang - China
Music is Romeo & Juliet - She landed he triple lutz/double toe and got the biggest, cutest grin on her face. She stepped out of a triple sal. She did a layback/catchfoot/Bielman spin. She did a fast catchfoot spiral. Smiled throughout her program and fun to watch. I don't know what happened to her axel it is not in my notes.
Chae-Hwa Kim - Korea
She did this cool back leap at the beginning of her program. She landed a double axel and a triple out of steps. She has fast, deep edges. She landed a triple salchow/double toe combo. Nice presentation but slow spins. New Personal Best
Kimmie Meissner - USA
Music is Snow Storm - I was across the rink from where she did her lutz but I could tell that baby wasn't going to land, she just didn't have the height. She had a bobbly landing on the triple flip. She has good speed throughout, great speed in her spiral sequence an improved edging. She did butterflies into flying sit spin. The double axle was very nice. I haven't seen her skate live in over a year and I could tell she has worked hard and improved her basic skating.
Alissa Czisny - USA
Music is Prelude and Quadukka - Of course you know she has great spirals and beautiful spin positions. She also had good height in her flying sit spin. She fell on a triple flip. She landed a double axle and a triple lutz. Her Moves in the Field and spins really wowed the crowd and deservedly so.
Fumie Suguri - Japan
Music is Bolero - Oh the poor kid. She fell on both her triples and later I found out she was injured. She had great footwork and spirals and I hope one day to see this program when she is healthy. Get better soon Fumie!
Yan Liu - China
Music is Song of Boundless Traveling - She landed a triple lutz/double toe and a triple loop and double axel. She has very intricate footwork. Ended with a layback/Bielman spin. Pretty Program, lovely skating. New Personal Best.
Yoshie Onda - Japan
Music is Love Dance - She almost put her hand down on he lutz, and couldn't do the combo. She landed a triple flip almost fell out of a double axel (Now it is getting late and I am tired and my notes are inadequate.)
Emily Hughes - USA
Music is Carmen - She fell on the flip, landed a triple lutz/double toe and a double axel.
Joannie Rochette - Canada
Music is Little Wing - She did a triple lutz/double toe combo with a step out on the lutz. She landed a triple flip and a double axel. Good footwork, beautiful layback, great edges.
Binshu Xu - China
Music is LeeLoo's Theme - She landed a triple/double combo. Fell on the jump out of steps. She is a fast skater with nice flow, light and airy. She landed the double axel. She did a Bielman spiral, held long. She ended with a catchfoot layback bringing her foot right to her face and then up into a Bielman.
Aki Sawada - Japan
She is a cute with a big grin. She landed triple lutz/double toe, triple flip and double axel. She tapped out the rhythm of her music with her finger during her spiral, or a spin I can't tell from the notes, but it was fun. The look on her face when she saw her scores was priceless, she was lots of fun. New Personal Best
